The objectives of this study unit are to develop the ability for representing, modeling and analyzing continuous-time systems and signals using linear systems theory. The study unit will introduce the practical use of MATLAB for signal analysis and simulation of dynamic systems. The unit will be assessed by a written examination which carries 90% of the global mark and practical work which carries 10% of the global mark. The practical work will consist of three lab sessions, one of which will be a computer simulation using MATLAB while the remaining two practical sessions will involve simple electrical circuits. The following is the schedule of the lectures, lab sessions and tutorials. Note for the lab and tutorial sessions, the class will be divided into four groups as indicated below. Two groups at a time will do the Matlab simulation lab and the tutorials while due to the limited space, only one group at a time will be able to do labs 2 and 3. For this reason, you are required not to swap groups. Mr. Owen Falzon will be assisting the lab sessions.
